Translocation Update

Vreni the lynx from the Zurich «Wildnispark» has successfully settled in in Germany.

At the end of August, a female lynx that was born in 2023 at the Langenberg animal park in Langnau am Albis was released into the wild in the Thuringian Forest. The animal, named Vreni, has adapted well to life in the wild and has already killed several deer.

Luna has arrived in the Tarvisio Forest

Today is a special day for the lynx in the south-eastern Alps: The Carabinieri Forestali released the female lynx LUNA in the Tarvisio Forest as part of the ULyCA project.

Lynx Finja has died of distemper

Minister Peter Hauk MdL: «The death of our lynx Finja is sad but can unfortunately also be part of the reality of reintroduction projects. After an intensive veterinary pathological examination, the cause of death has now been clarified».

Release of a potential breeding Lynx into the wild

A young Carpathian lynx, originally intended for the European Conservation Breeding Programme as a breeding lynx, was released into the wild in Saxony on 10 July 2024 due to better suitability.

Lynx Finja died

The lynx Finja was supposed to lay the foundation for a permanent and healthy lynx population. The animal was now found in a very poor condition in the northern Black Forest. As no treatment was effective, the animal had to be put down.
